Meet Oladepo Babatunde — A Real Farmer Who Happens to Know How to Write
Look — I didn’t fall into agriculture by accident. I started in 2007, when most of my mates were just worried about math homework. I was thinking about how many crates of eggs 50 layers could actually lay if I fed them with what little I had.
That small curiosity turned into a lifelong obsession — sometimes rewarding, sometimes exhausting, always real.
🐓 I’m a Farmer, First
This isn’t theory for me. I’ve raised broilers that didn’t grow, sold eggs in the rain, lost sleep over feed costs, and dealt with customers who paid late. I’ve watched good harvests, bad weather, and worse market prices. Everything I write on this blog is filtered through the question: “Would this have actually helped me when I was starting out?”
If it wouldn’t have — I don’t publish it.
📚 I’m Also a Bit of a Nerd (Let’s Be Honest)
Even though I studied Computer Science at Kwara State Polytechnic, farming has always been the thing I come back to. But I don’t just farm — I research obsessively. I dig into studies, field reports, price trends, feed formulations, government programs… and then break it all down in plain English.
Why? Because most agric info online is either too shallow, too academic, or just plain wrong for Nigerian conditions.
I’ve seen “experts” recommend feed that doesn’t exist here or suggest practices that only work if you have ₦2 million and an army of workers. Meanwhile, most of us are starting with ₦50,000 and a backyard.
⚙️ What Makes Me Different?
Honestly? I don’t pretend. I don’t write to impress. I write so someone — maybe you — won’t waste time and money repeating mistakes I’ve already made.
Here’s what I actually offer:
- Farm-tested advice: Stuff I’ve done, failed at, fixed, and tried again
- Hyper-local info: I don’t care what works in Canada — I care what works in Kwara
- Practical + researched content: Real answers, not fluff or vague “insights”
- No hype: If something sucks, I say it. If it’s great, I say why.
💻 This Blog? It’s for People Like You
Whether you’re a beginner trying to figure out how many crates of eggs to expect from 300 layers… or a small-scale farmer wondering if investing in a fish pond makes sense right now — this blog is built for you.
I cover everything from:
- Crop Farming (cassava, maize, plantain — the usual suspects)
- Livestock Farming (layers, broilers, catfish, goats — no BS)
- Agritech (only if it actually works in Nigeria)
- Crop Insurance (because no one explains it in English)
- Agribusiness Finance (real-world breakdowns, not just theory)
